Heroic Epics vs Creation Stories: Which, When, and Why?
Sunday April 27, 2025 10:00am - 11:00am EDT
What is the difference between epic tales and creation stories? Enuma Elish vs Gilgamesh is perhaps one of the first examples, but what of the stories of Africa? Southeast Asia? East Asia? The Americas? What are the major building blocks of each style? This panel will tackle the discussion of the importance of both genres as well as how modern authors of fantasy have incorporated creation stories into their work either directly through prequels (Silmarillion of Tolkien), introductory chapters, etc., or indirectly through flashbacks and clues to a bygone age (Wheel of Time of Jordan). Please join us for this interactive panel discussion - all are welcome.
